The Wells Road Centre celebrated the 73rd anniversary of Windrush by setting up an informative display in the hospital’s Coffee Bar. Windrush Day is celebrated every year on the 22nd of June and acknowledges the contributions and sacrifices of British Caribbean Communities.
The Windrush generation are those who arrived in the UK from the Caribbean between 1948 and 1973. Many came and took up jobs in the emerging NHS and other sectors affected by Britain’s post World War II labour shortage.
Service user Andrew kindly contributed anecdotes and stories from his grandparents who were part of the Windrush Generation.
We shared stories about the hardships and difficulties the Windrush Generation faced, the contributions they have made to the United Kingdom, some amazing local history from Gedling Colliery and tales from Windrush Nurses working in the NHS.

The OT department update cultural needs of our patient group
The OT department collected hair product requests from the all of the five wards . The Occupational Therapist Nikisha Ayre and Wellbeing Facilitator Rachel Moth then purchased all of the products from a local Nottingham shop . We created the stall and created a poster to inform the patients of our new products. hair stall that contains a range of products e.g. Hair oil, Conditioners, shampoo , Hair Bonnets, Combs , Edge control and hairsprays . This hair stall was created to meet the cultural needs of our patient group.
We have received amazing feedback from all of the patients who make weekly purchases and we are regularly purchasing more hair products.
