What is your name? Kevin Thompson
What is your role? Performance Manager
Why did you choose to work in the NHS? Because I thought what I had learnt in the private sector could be useful in the public sector.
Describe what you do. Try and turn data we collect (at Notts HCF Trust) into information, and to enable that information to positively impact on what we do.
What do you enjoy most about your role? The sense of joint purpose.
What three words would you use to describe the NHS?
Caring, shambolic, misunderstood

What does the NHS mean to you?
Kind of like unruly offspring. You feel tremendous affection for it and you take pride in its successes but it frequently causes you to wince when it does something that seems self-destructive, foolish, or thoughtless. And, to extend the metaphor beyond all taste, if it was playing in the park with some boys from the government, you would tell it to find nicer children to befriend, because the ones from the government would only end up trying to take something off it, regardless of what they say.
If you could give the NHS any 70th birthday present what would it be?
More informed and longsighted governments
