Why do I volunteer? Abbie, volunteer in young people’s services

I decided to become an NHS volunteer because, after being a patient for the CAMHS Eating Disorder team for three years. I wanted to give something back to the service that has given me so much.

Volunteering to help young people who are going through the same experience that I had is the most rewarding thing that I have done in my life; it forever inspires me to take steps in my own recovery that wouldn’t be possible without it.

One day, I hope to work for CAMHS and the NHS myself, helping young people overcome their struggles and flourish as a psychologist, and I’m hopeful that being a volunteer will help me in this journey.
