Captain Sir Tom Moore’s Charity Legacy

Following the fantastic £32 million raised by Sir Tom Moore, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has been allocated £95k by NHS Charities Together. It has been confirmed that the money should be spent on enhancing the well-being of NHS Staff, volunteers and patients impacted by COVID-19, as part of the Trust’s COVID-19 response; such as:

  • Funding well-being packs/gifts for staff and volunteers on wards/departments (this could include food/meal deliveries and refreshments, wash kits, overnight stay kits, furniture for rest rooms, etc.)
  • Supporting patients mental health through isolation with electronic communication devises so they can talk to family and friends
  • Benevolence
  • Other items as identified by members and their NHS bodies that enhance the well-being of NHS staff, volunteers and patients impacted by COVID-19

World Suicide Prevention Day

Thursday 10 September is World Suicide Prevention Day. World Suicide Prevention Day provides the opportunity for people across the globe to raise awareness of suicide and suicide prevention. The theme again this year is ‘Working together to prevent suicide’

Many of us will be affected by suicide in some way during our lives. Every life lost to suicide is someone’s partner, parent, child, friend or colleague.

Suicide prevention is everyone’s business. Suicide is preventable and we can all play our part in making a

NHS People Plan

NHS England and NHS Improvement, and Health Education England have now published the next part of the NHS People Plan. We are the NHS: People Plan for 2020/21 action for us all sets out what our NHS people can expect from leaders and each other.

This is our opportunity to take a huge step forward in creating an equal, inclusive and diverse NHS.

Patient Safety Consultation

NHS England and Improvement have launched a public consultation on a draft Framework for Involving Patients in Patient Safety. This on-line consultation is open now until Sunday 18 October 2020. To further support this consultation, the East Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative are working with NHS England and Improvement on the delivery of on-line focus groups involving patient safety staff leads, patients and carers. We aim to deliver these in early October.

Let’s Talk Wellbeing

The Let’s Talk – Wellbeing service has produced a short film about the support available for people if their mental health has been affected by coronavirus and the impact of lockdown. It includes details of the

support provided and how to contact the service, as well as useful tips on how to look after your mental

Carers Federation Counselling Service

Carers Federation offer a free counselling service to people who care for or support a family member, friend or neighbour. If you are not a carer, you can still access the service for a contribution of £5 -£10 per session.

Counselling can help you understand your feelings and help you make sense of what is going on in your life.

The Carers’ Council – Allies in Mental Health

The Carers’ Council is a charity and offers support across Nottinghamshire to families, friends and carers of those

experiencing mental distress by providing:

• Someone to talk to about experiences

• Quarterly Open Meetings with speakers and social activities

• Quarterly Newsletter of events and information

• Outings for members and family

• Promoting a partnership approach – working with NHS healthcare staff, Councils and other organisations
