This developed into the Carlisle butterfly project. Due to the new Nightingale, Ward being set up at Rampton Hospital, Cambridge Ward was relocated to Carlisle Ward. Carlisle is an area that had been used for decant purposes previously and required maintenance work to make it more suitable to become a permanent base and supportive living space for the patients.
Along with this remedial work the staff and patients embraced the change together with a community project. Initially they produced a wonderful rainbow entrance painting to welcome visitors to their new ward. This developed into the Carlisle Butterfly Project. The group have produced some butterfly templates to circulate for colouring with the aim of being able to display a butterfly to represent and signify the importance of each life lost through COVID-19. The pictures represent the start of this wider project.
