As we get 2018 underway, we’re taking time to reflect over the past twelve months and look at the highlights. Read about Gordon, Mandy, Ann, Sheila, Michael and Laura’s years.

Glenis is one of our longest-serving volunteers, and volunteers through the Involvement Centre at Duncan Macmillan House.

I don’t really know about highlights. I just try to make a difference day to day and try and make sure they’re alright whilst they’re with us.

30 years ago it was completely different from today, people didn’t have a voice and weren’t treated well. Things seemed to be unfair and I don’t like unfairness. Today, people will talk, but I don’t have a magic wand to change things. I’m here while you’re stopping with us to try and make sure that your experience is as nice as we can make it.

In the last year I’ve been involved in the the menus and laminating things at Highbury. I’ve been pushing to get wifi for patients on the wards and the technicians have been sorting it out.

I’ve also been involved in the Ideal Ward Round. It’s been going on for about four years. People won’t talk and they’re just nervous in ward rounds, so we’ve been seeing if we can make it smaller.

All the things I do I just seem to do day to day. I just get up and go.
